2025 GEBIS Thangka Exhibit — Across the Millennia

What stories do centuries-old paintings tell? How can a single piece of art hold the wisdom of an entire tradition? Thangkas are far more than paintings—they are spiritual tools, deeply woven into Tibetan culture, religion, and daily life.

Yet, this sacred art form is rapidly disappearing, threatened by modernization, social upheaval, and the loss of skilled artists.

Our exhibition, “Across the Millennia,” is a celebration of this endangered heritage and a call to preserve it. Featuring 55 exquisite Thangkas carefully selected from our collection,a testament to the efforts being made to ensure this endangered tradition survives and flourishes. This is more than an art display—it’s an invitation to step into a world of ancient wisdom and compassion.

We invite you to our exhibition, “Across the Millennia.” Discover the experiences and teachings of great spiritual masters through Thangkas—treasured for centuries as cultural and spiritual gems, revered for their beauty and profound significance.

Behind the Roll-ing Scenes

The story of the rolls began in the winter of 2015 for one  simple reason – to help those in need. One day, young monks at GEBIS heard that Master Zhen-Ru was worried about the 1,500 children on the Island who could not afford to eat breakfast every day.
